Hello

Using 3.04 on Windows.

I have been downloading The Vietnam War in 3.00 and have had file sizes between 349 and 382mb using a mode of good (hvfhigh1 and hvfhigh2).
I upgraded to 3.04 and downloaded the latest episode with a mode of good (hvfhigh1 & hvfhigh2) but now I'm getting larger file sizes of 449mb.

Any ideas why?

That isn't going to help you. You need to look at the output from get_iplayer during the actual download so see which streams you accessed, and you need to look at the properties of the downloaded files: actual bitrate and duration. You say you are downloading hvfhigh streams, but that isn't possible. The output you posted says otherwise, and the downloads would be much larger than 449 MB. Even with that, there is no guarantee that streams are the same from episode to episode, even if they have the same recording mode designation by get_iplayer. Also keep in mind that the streams on offer may change with time if the BBC reposts an edited version of a programme.

Don't forget that the later version of GiP will try and get the higher quality audio too and the higher bit rate will result in larger files. You can use the lower bit rate with the option --no-hq-audio.

You would only get the higher audio bit rate if available, and my guess is that it wasn't at the time. I have seen that happen with other programmes. EDIT: The "editorial2" version is also the version with audio description, so not relevant here after all. Audio described programmes usually don't have 320k audio.
