FLV downloads not being converted to MP4/M4A

user-493

I'm puzzled. I had a previous installation of Linux Mint which, after downloading programmes was correctly converting the files to MP4/M4A (depending on whether video/audio). I've been examining other Linux distros to see which I like and decided to come back to Mint. However, this time around, downloads stay as FLV files.

I'm a real Linux rookie, after 30 years of working with CP/M, DOS and Windows, it's like plaiting sawdust, I really don't know where to start! Help, please! ;-)

Thanks.

It sounds like you are missing the libav-tools package. Follow the Ubuntu/Mint installation instructions in the wiki and all the necessary packages will be installed. Do not install get_iplayer from the Ubuntu/Mint repositories.

Ah that sounds like where I've gone wrong as I installed from the repositories! I'll uninstall and then follow the path recommended! Thanks!

Ah I found the original URL which had "Noddy's Guide" instructions (http://www.christopherdowning.co.uk/2012...-tutorial/) easier to follow than the wiki for newbies such as myself! Sorted.

Really? The information is the same, it's even organised in numbered steps in the Wiki:

https://squarepenguin.co.uk/wiki/installation/ubuntu/

The aim is for this site to have easy to understand information so please let me know what can be improved.
