Have the BBC broken us again?

I just tried to do a "refresh cache" today and, while radio is working, TV is giving me:

WARNING: Failed to download programme schedule http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcalba/programmes/...t_week.xml

Loads of them....

When I try and download a program, I get

INFO: 1 Matching Programmes
WARNING: Could not download programme metadata from http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b070rfs5.xml

ERROR: Failed to get version pid metadata from iplayer site

------------

Any help appreciated

Alan

As of about 2 hours ago BBC Programme Development seem to have taken the XML index files off-line - doesn't look like the normal change of proxy server error that GiP gets - they might just be overhauling the indexing system into a new structure...

Let's see what the people on the site who really understand this stuff think.

Code:

OK -thanks. I'll try later tonight and see what happens.

Hi,

I'm trying to download this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p03...s-and-dung

Using this command:

root@infinity:~# get_iplayer --get --url http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p03...s-and-dung

and get this error:

get_iplayer Output:

root@infinity:~# get_iplayer --get --url http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p03...s-and-dung

Would anyone have any suggestions on what the issue is, or how to fix it?

It seems to download other programmes without issue

Many thanks

I cannot download anything using --pid

Same here - you get this message going to the XML:

Quote:This service is currently undergoing a period of downtime for essential maintenance. Please contact the following email address for further information: '[email protected]'

So might be temporary, or might be something more worrying with those 'new set of URLs'.

Trying searching and using --get XXXX, changing --type, updating cpan/perl and making sure Simple XML is installed (it was, I checked get_iplayer was updated too), other --pids doesn't fix it.

Had perl problems last night on one PC, then, using another, found Radio 3's Hear and Now was at only 128kbps, not the usual 320kbps. By 9 o'clock this morning it was up to 320kbps.

For the past few hours I have found the same problems as those reported in recent posts here. I decided to try HiDownload Platinum Edition for Through the Night. That worked, but only captured a 128kbps stream.

Let's hope it gets back to something like normal tomorrow.

Started last night with RTMP errors:

That carried on all day until the last run (at 18:50 GMT) and now all I get is:

Either the BBC have a server down or they've killed it in some other way.

Anyone else having issues?

user-783

Plenty of details in other threads about this, eg /threa...-3561.html

user-697

The windows forum - not really an OS specific issue...

user-1193

Same here - have tried a clean reinstall before I saw this thread.

Hopefully a fix will put it right.

user-1194

same here - I have uninstalled and clean reinstall but to no effect, and restored my system to a known working one(windows 10 64 bit)

user-585

Reinstalling wont help. The Beeb have taken away the feeds GiP uses again.

In user-2's announcement, he said:

"In the meantime, you can try youtube-dl for ad hoc downloads:

https://rg3.github.io/youtube-dl/"

If you do not want to get the 50 fps versions (twice the size with no real improvement in quality) of videos, you can add this as an option for youtube-dl:

Code:
-f iplayer_stb_streaming_hd_akamai_hls_open-meta/iptv_streaming_1500_akamai_hls_open-meta/iplayer_stb_streaming_sd_akamai_hls_open-meta

That will search thru the 25 fps versions from highest definition to lowest.

I still prefer get_iplayer. Get well soon.

user-1141

Can anyone suggest an ad-hoc way of capturing radio shows? Or am I back to looping "line out" to "line in" and recording in real time? TIA. Hope there's a proper solution.

HiDownload Platinum Edition might get some radio programmes, but it's a bit hit and miss. If they still offer a one month free trial it would be worth a try. You need the freeware flvextract.exe to get the aac file out of the FLV it grabs. I got Radio 3's Through the Night at 128kbps, but had no luck with later programmes today.
